In the foyer. Even in a large home the foyer or entry tends to be a relatively small area but so often we need a quick seat to slip off a boot wait for a slowpoke loved one or set down a package. A bench with a slim profile can be easily tucked against a wall leaving room to slip footwear below and hang jackets or leashes above so no more space is eaten up than necessary. Make sure to use a hardy material such as a rugged leather or microsuede so the occasional wet umbrella won’t spoil the look.
At the dining table. A two-seater bench (with or without a back) makes a flexible and stylish substitute for a few dining chairs. Couples or parents with children can sit together and individuals can spread out alone or share the bench with a friend. For more formal affairs move the bench off to one side and use just dining chairs spread around the table and when the guests are packed in pull up the bench for two extra seats (you might even squeeze in a third person if people are willing to share). With a bench handy you can suit any situation or mood.
