Make a statement with a big swoop. Have a steep hillside that's impossible to plant? Use it to your advantage by building in a unique curved bench.
At the dining table. A two-seater bench (with or without a back) makes a flexible and stylish substitute for a few dining chairs. Couples or parents with children can sit together and individuals can spread out alone or share the bench with a friend. For more formal affairs move the bench off to one side and use just dining chairs spread around the table and when the guests are packed in pull up the bench for two extra seats (you might even squeeze in a third person if people are willing to share). With a bench handy you can suit any situation or mood.
When I think of benches at a dining table I am immediately brought back to Sunday afternoon picnics in the park. The bench however has come a long way and now plays an important part in the design of the eating area. Whether formal or informal bench seating typically allows more people to sit at a table (compared to one that just has chairs) and can bring important stylistic elements to the overall aesthetic of a dining area.
Maximize a small space with a custom fit. A small space filled with lots of small furniture just feels cluttered — you can actually seat more people and increase the sense of space with a built-in bench that fits perfectly.
